The Woody Boater 2010 Lake Dora Awards.

Here we go. The 2010 Lake Dora Awards. Yes there were some real nice boats, and I am sure that there were some tense moments.. But not for us at WoodyBoater. It was pure heaven. The judge thought this all through on his. 16 hr drive home and these are the winners.
Best of Show: Tavaras Florida. Period end of argument, the judge was unanimous on this one. This little town on the lake is doing an amazing job transforming itself into what will be a destination for future Woody Boaters. With lots of very tasteful and thought out construction. And a welcoming Mayor. Tavaras is a winner.
Most Outrageous Entrance. This sucker came in on a trailer. Dear God.

Most fun sound of an engine. Woody Gals 350 full throttle.. Arrrrg!
The I want a ride award.. Miss America IX.. Come on... really... Man that would be fun

The How The Other Half Lives Award. The entire Riva gang. They came in full force and blew me away. Great guys with to much information crammed into there heads. I went on one amazing life changing boat ride. I get it now. The ride on a Riva Aquarama is a true defining moment. Even watching Marty Felletto docking fellow Riva Gurus Alan Weinstein's Aquarama was an eye opener. More on them later.
Man of the Hour.. Day... Week... Month... Year. Terry Fiest. Show Chairman and well... Holey Crap this guy can run a battle Cruiser show and pull it off.
Best Odd Ball thing at the flea market. I need this at home to yell at my sons. PICK UP YOUR DIRTY SOCKS!
Best? Thanks to Del VanEmmerik and his apatite for fun fiberglass I left the show with a smile. More on this killer Larson later.. And no that is not a tumor...
Best New Thing.. The New Docks...
Best Use Of Inlay. Saetta Boat Works. You had to be there to see this. This kit boat is breath taking.
Best Restoration. Hands town to Craig Hartwig. Pictured left. My hat is off to you Craig. You deserve a standing ovation...
Thanks to all the folks at the Sunnyland Chapter of the ACBS for putting on the best show that I can recall.

Lake Dora Sunday - Rush Hour at 10:00 AM

7:00 AM on Sunday morning, last day of the 2010 Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival. Hoping to get some final shots of all the beautiful boats before they start to load them on the trailers at 12:00 PM.
Not too many people on the docks this early, a great time shoot some photos and admire the boats one last time. This boat show continues to grow in popularity for both the owner's and spectator's, and is certainly a great way to kick off the boat 2010 boat show season.

Must have been a good party under the big tent last night, looks like some folks decided to sleep in late!
"Bay Horse" is a 1925 26' Chris-Craft Triple Cockpit powered by a 316HP Scripps V-12, and is owned by Lou Jezdimir from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We will be doing a full story on this boat and it's owner in the coming weeks - It's a great story so stay tuned....

Last chance to pick up your vintage Tee Nee trailer parts and accessories from Wally's.
Or to pick up your rare One-of-a-Kind home made Cat c/w Twin 1957 Johnson 35's. The ad said "Big Water / Smooth Ride".
Then around 9:00 AM the Sunnyland Officials announced that there was some severe weather moving into the area. The boat owner's were advised that the launch ramp would be open earlier at 10:00 AM to begin the boat recovery procedure to avoid any complications from the weather. For purposes of efficient recovery, each boat on display had a number associated with it's trailer and Rush Hour began at 10:00 AM sharp.

You can imagine what happens when 150 boats all want to get loaded at the same time to avoid the severe weather moving in. However thanks to the experienced volunteer's working the ramp and the great organization of the Sunnyland crew, to my knowledge everyone got loaded without incident. The system worked well.It was a site to see, so many antique and classic boats moving out of the water so quickly.
Then it was time for the exhibitor's at the Flea Market to load up their stuff for the long trip home.
The 2010 Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival hosted by the Sunnyland Chapter of the ACBS was once again a fantastic event. Show Chairman Terry Fiest, his team of volunteer's and everyone involved in this year's event did an outstanding job.

Live from Lake Dora - Youth Judging Program

One of the key elements to the future growth of our hobby is to encourage young people to become interested and more involved in antique & classic boating. Sunnyland ACBS Chapter Treasurer Terry Ross is working hard do develop a Youth Judging Program again this year which is also sponsored by the good folks at Hagerty Insurance.

This year approximately 20 kids signed up for the Youth Judging Program and visited a number of antique & classic boats during the Sunnyland Boat Festival. The kids ranged in age from 6 to 14, and with judging sheets and clip boards in hand asked the boat owner's questions about the boats, boat safety, age, model, engine type and most importantly "Why did you name your boat that name?

The kids asked great, informed questions and patiently waited for the owner's answer as they marked their judging sheets. Does your horn work? Ahhh - No, But I promise to get it working when I get home. What do you have to do to get it to work? I have to repair the corroded wire connections. Until I fix my horn, before we go out on the water for a boat ride, we should always have a temporary horn on board for safety.... Right? Judges - Yes you should!

I carefully explained the history of the boat, the make, model and year and the reason for the two-tone paint scheme of the boat. And why my name was Texx. Yikes!

It was a great experience and I was proud to have been involved in the Youth Judging Program.
We have a ton of photos and stories from the 2010 Sunnyland Boat Festival.... Stay Tuned!
