Boat Ride Thrills Captured On A Post Card.

Ya know that boat ride you took when you were a kid, and you never had a souvenir to show for it. Here is your chance thanks to eBay. You can relive the thrill of being crammed into a boat with 7 other folks, no life jackets, some fat guy farting and some idiot lighting up a smoke.. All for the joy of going 20 knots.. if you are lucky. And to be honest, if I could I would have loved to have had the chance... of course I would be the fat guy farting! Click here for the auction..

Smith Mountain Lake. It's Just Around The Corner!

The public is cordially invited to see a flotilla of antique and classic motorboats at Smith Mountain Lake’s Parrot Cove Marina on Saturday, June 27, 2009. More than a dozen pristine antique and classic boats from the 1920’s to the 1960’s will be on display at Parrot Cove Marina, near the Hales Ford Bridge on Route 122, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. This is not the big Smith Mountain lake Show, but it is a fun crowd and a beautiful lake to cruise on. So that's good enough for me. Last years Summer show.. the big one was fun as all get out. There was a flotilla of Smith's there as well..... Maybe we should have a Smith kinda reunion. Calling all Smith's with old boats.... You can contact george.blosser@b2xonline.com

Welcome to XK19y Boater. I Am Officially In Love!

This may be one of the coolest boats Chris Craft ever made. Yah, I knew of them, ya, I have seen one, but the more you dig into the history and the design...the more you will dig it.... These may be the best deals in the hobby right now. Fiberglass boats are still cheap compared to the old woody's and this one may be one of the crown jewels of the lot. Here are some links, video's and of course Bo Zolland is in on it to... Click on image above to xk19.com

Ho Chi Mama, That Is One Sweet XK19

OK if it's not made from wood, does count if it gives you wood? Dang! Here I have all these boats already that I can not use and this comes along. It's priced right, and in the right color for fun. Dang- double dog dang! It's even here in Virginia, taunting me...less than one hour from my house... I pass that town each weekend on the way to the water... ugh, to mow the grass......Never mind..... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I smell a road trip, maybe the owner won't mind if I just show up and talk his or her ear off and not buy it... Sellers don't mind, they love that sort of stuff! Click Here and buy this please!!!

I Am Living The Classic Boat Nightmare!

Here I am with 5 classic boats, all in very nice working order. BUT, I can't get to them, they are tucked away for the winter and I am knee deep in a home renovation that has me moving into the house in mid June. A total gut job. So.. Weekends at the River house are impossible, except for the 3 hr drive so I can have the privilege of mowing the grass and explaining to the neighbors that I am still living there. This weekend was no different. Friday night. 3 hr drive, Sat mow the 1 acre of the fastest growing grass on the planet earth, and then back to DC. to tear into a wood floor. The good news is that I finally move in June 17th-June 19th...mmmm there's something about that weekend... My son is graduating from high school..naaa......mmm Wait..... that's the St Michaels show...Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

In Honor of This Weekend. Actual Rare Footage of PT 109 Attacking Yamoto!

What an amazing find. This actual footage is mesmerizing, shot from onboard....What courage that must have taken. Funny how reality seems so much different than the old news reels when seen through the eye of someone actually in the battle.. What's also surprising is how small all these ships were. And what role did dogs play in the big WW 2 navel battles? ? It's eye opening......

Along with that amazing footage.. Is a heart warming story done in New Orleans for the WWII Museum. Click Here. There is a great video as well with the story, that one is worth sitting through.

The New Classic Boat Show....WHAT'S...... IT.... WORTH?

Hello ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the newest game show on the web. WHAT'S..... IT...... WORTH? We have some amazing finds here that absolutely no one can guess the price... Tell them what the boat is Don!

Thanks Woody, what we have here is a half started restoration on a 16 foot Whirlwind.... nothing terribly interesting there Woody... But... What makes this a hard guess is that it has NOTHING with it...OOOOOOOOOOO! Ahhhhhhhhhh! So what you are saying Don is that it's just the Hull.. A stripped 16 foot Hull.
That's right Woody. That's it. I suppose if you have a Whirlwind that needs a hull and you already have the parts it's worth more to you, and if not... It's a nice planter for that nautical garden you have been planning.
Thanks Don, So to you viewers out there, this is your chance to play... WHATS....IT....WORTH?
Comment in and lets give the owner a value. If you are the lucky winner you can email him and buy it... or tow it to the dump for him. Walter Crouse at Houseofcrouse@yahoo.com

Is Wednesday To Early To Be Dreaming Of This Weekend?

The weather has been spectacular here in Virginia for the past couple of days, and as much as I love New Jersey and New York, getting out on one of the boats this weekend here on the Northern Neck of Virginia is calling me. I may even take Friday off... maybe cheat it into Thursday night..... maybe I will leave early from work... around 3... but traffic will be bad then... I might as well just take Thursday off since I will only be at work for a couple hrs... It's not like I'm going to get anything done in a hr.... mmmm, come to think of it, I can leave tonight.... ya! I leave early to beat the traffic right after lunch....... ahhhh to hell with it, I might as well leave right now.............................................................................

I Am Moving To Jersey! I Don't Care What Exit!

I went to the Bruce Springsteen concert last night here in DC. What an amazing show. I recall his shows form the early 80's... I think, it was a fuzzy time... Anyway last night I sat there... stood there, and thought, ya know what? Those guys from Lake Hopatcong NJ are always the life of the party, the lake is beautiful, and then there is Bruuuuuce. New Jersey is full of very cool folks..... OK there is Bon Jovi, and Newark. But no ones perfect, in fact it adds to the texture of life. After all I like my stuff with a little patina. So I am off to the Lake Hopatcong show on June 27th. Maybe the Boss will be there and we can rap about music and boats...mmmm I should bring some songs that I have written and a demo tape...

Bo Zolland And His Imaginary 26´Continental H-T with AC and Heating.

Bo did this drawing for a client so it might actually be in the works. The tops on these Continentals are ... well over the top. If you want the real deal. There is one at Sierra Boat Company. If that is too much you can always print Bo's drawing and do a candle kinda shrine deal...

Not Just Another Classic Boat Restoration Project!

I am sure it ran when it was tucked away.... in a shoe box.
Introducing the worlds smallest restoration project. Just think, all the parts are there... kinda, looks like it has a good bottom. Just some Elmer's and Dope and you are set to go... factor in that the restoration will cost twice what you thought, so you best have about 50 bucks more set aside. The engine will no doubt need working on. Do you have the tools? No your wife's eyebrow tweezers are not tools! To her that is. And for gods sake don't piss her off anymore than normal. Restoring a boat can be trying on a marriage, this one could ruin a night plopped in front of the TV for example.... " Dear when do you plan on finishing that dam boat? You said it would only take 3 hrs, it's now 5! You smell like glue!" Is it really worth it! YES. You will be able to live your childhood dream of having a classic miniature racing boat. ..You would have been the coolest kid on the pond with your race boat. Oh sure all your pals had Cox Airplanes, or Estes Rockets. You have this thing. Until it all goes sour. After hrs of trying to get that engine started you put it into the lake and it takes off. Poof! It's gone. Some lame ass string thing ain't gonna do it. Then you realize that the thing is sinking cause Elmers is for school papers not boats, ugh. Then you cut your blistered finger on the prop trying to start it... Fed up you tuck it way for 40 years and sell it on eBay. And so here you have it. Click here!

Lily's Launch! Way To Go Chad! Sorry Lily!

Fellow WoodyBoater and frequent commenter Chad Durren has finally finished and launched his beautiful Chris Craft Utility named after his cute as all get out daughter... From the photos and the beer and Brats this looks like it was a great time....And yes that is Chris Smith at the launch... Dang! You may recall WoodyBoater doing a voting contest on the font to use for the transom. We also followed the restoration from time to time. But this latest update takes the cake! What an amazing job by Chad and the Wooden Runabout Company, simply beautiful. Looks like Lily and Lily are bonded for life. What a special gift from Chad to his young daughter. To think that in 30 years she will have that dang boat out in the garage that she can't sell because "her Dad restored it for her". Then 20 years later after dragging the rotten thing around with her she will no doubt restore it and spend way too much money on it, because" her Dad restored it for her" her husband will leave her because she spent the "nest egg" on it... her kids will think she is selfish and why doesn't she spend all the money on them and their education........ Dear god Chad, get rid of the boat now and save her all that grief...mmmm let's see... I will give you 1000 bucks for it right now, I will even come pick it up! Just think Chad. It sounds cheap now, but in the long run its a real good offer. Think of your family Chad! Think of your grandkids....The family tree sell now Chad... SELL NOW! I am here for you pal. That reminds me, I can do paypal!

Put Away The Ice Pick, It's Summer In The 1000 Islands.

Wooohooo, starting may 15th, that's this Friday the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton NY is open for it's summer hours. 9AM -5PM Daily. That's all I needed. It's Summer, never mind it's 50 here in VA and raining like we live in a Rain forest. It's Summer in Clayton and if it's summer there it's got to be summer elsewhere! I can't stop saying that. It's Summer! I smell Burgers and weenies on the grill already.... I am going to put on my screen today at work just so I can smell that coco butter smell... maybe even get out the puka shell necklace....I can feel my pineal glands opening up already.

Woody Boater Hits Over 100,000 Hits, WooHoo!

Thanks to you loyal readers WoodyBoater has broken the 100,000 viewer mark, actually over 125,000. With an average readership of 7,500 a month and 15,000 views a month with an average monthly growth of 20% we are officially on a roll. The busiest day was during the Lake Dora Show with over 800 views a day. The other spikes in readership are when I yell at the ACBS. Which kills me a little inside every time I do it. It's not in my nature to poke great folks in the eye... but if we don't no one will. California leads the way with 7,000 viewers and then NY.. FLA, Illinois and Michigan are right up there. I don't count Virginia, because it's our home state. but wow 5500 viewers, me not included makes Virginia a classic boat state? Boats and Babes are way out in front as the top readership clicks. Folks spend close to 6 minutes on the site when they visit. For a small blog these numbers are mind blowing, considering that the hobby at best has 15,000 folks in it. We are humbled and extremely grateful for readership. In the upcoming months we are ramping up a new woodyboater, more everything. This is a true joy to do and even more fun when the comments come in. Thanks..

World's Coolest Classic Boat. 1959 Riva Super Florida. For Sale!

If you have a round 65K you are now the luckiest person in the world, because now you can use it to buy one of the coolest classic boats on the planet. To top it off it's one of the nicest condition boats you will find as well. This boat has placed first at Tahoe Concourse and "Best of Show" at Houston's Keels & Wheels Show. I know the owner personaly and trust me, if there is grain pattern out of whack he caught it. The motor is rebuilt and the rest is pure Riva magic. I have seen this boat in person and had to wipe the drool off the deck...several times. The pom pom interior is fun as all get out. WoodyBoater named this boat best interior at Lake Dora this year. Riva Boats are considered to be the finest boats in the world and this one is one of the finest of Riva's boats. To be honest 65K is a steal. So... click here and find a place for that 65K you got just sitting in your checking account. Your banks gonna fail anyway, at least have your money in something that can stay afloat!
