Craig Hartwig's Package.... A Real Show Stopper!

Sorry Craig, we are talking about your boat and truck! Craig's very very rare 1942 16 foot Chris Craft Barrel Back Hydro has been at the Lake Dora show before. But this year it was the package deal that made my week. Craig had a nice truck lined up with a restored trailer and spare engine in the bed. Craig's intent to eventually restore the boat. But to be honest, I love it just the way it is. Folks would just sit there and drool. There is something to say of the dream of restoration. It's all fantasy at that point. The fun of restoration is a major factor in this hobby. I looked at one boat that had been in the water once, and was for sale. The owner wanted to do another. So here's to the dream, here's to Craig and his ability to hold out and stretch the dream out just a tad longer. Thanks Craig for sharing...

Old School Boat School. On The Web, Whats Next? The Amish?

Well, yes, actually the Amish are on the web? Dang! I suppose it was inevitable since they started making those cheap fire places we see on TV 24/7 Well, here ya go. Old School Boat School has gone all web like on us. And what do we have here. Joe Martel? This looks like a fun time even if all you learn is how to keep air bubbles out of your varnish. But from the look of things it's way more than that. Some of the boats these guys have worked on are amazing. And the stories from Pat Curtin are worth the price of admission alone. You can click on the image or here. OldSchoolBoatSchool.com Have fun. The lodging is amazing!

Big Woody Best Of Shows. Tavares Florida ACBS Boat Show.

Best use of technology. Chris Craft Antique Boat Club. This became the Wifi area and charging station for countless phones. As well as down loading images.
Best New Idea, Segways. What a great idea.
Most aggravating moment. The weather. Dang I wanted a ride on this boat. I was invited and never could get to it. Dang dang dang!
Best interior. Hands down goes to all the Rivas. but Don Ayers takes the cake. I dig those pom poms..
Best old graphics. Don't touch a thing!
Best Dressed. Black socks are back in. I was wondering when my dad would be back in fashion...I think this is my favorite shot of the week.
Best use of skin to sell a product. Hagerty Insurance
Best set up and boat of the show. This is what a show is all about. Staging, and telling a story. It's like Craig Hartwig just pulled up from the races..in 1942..That a very rare 16 foot Hydro barn find.
The Rub Goldberg award. Don't know who Rub Goldberg was...do ya?
The I don't care if you do a story on me award. After informing the guy running the New GarWood tent that I had given him an ad and would like to take some shots for the site. I got an OK and this. It was only later that I realized the body language...I am still laughing..
The jaw dropper award. This boat was here last year and still my heart skips a beat when I see it. It's strange to see it here. It makes everything else look like.. well, boats. This is art! It's also not on my trailer hitch.. I needed a bigger transmission.. ya that's the reason.
Biggest balls award. Jesus, what did it take to go for this...I have heard of this on the Century Arabians. But never seen it. Amazing. The finished product is amazing. Way to go!
Best fins... Not Best looking by the way!
Best food. The first time... Ok the second... The third not so much.. maybe I will be ready .. in a year ..

Big Crowds, Big Winds, Big Time Fun.

It's getting to be that time. 15hr drive ahead and I have seen every item 6 times. A library of 300 shots and some incredible memories. We handed out 25 custom 1 time woodyboater shirts, and ate a years worth of chicken on a stick. The crowds were just as large as last year today, yesterday, smaller. Many boats did not go in the water due to high winds. Some were even damaged. But as a whole one amazing event. I am sorry to say "gotta go" Tomorrow. Best of show awards. Best food item, best boat, best story..... Best dressed... I think we already know that one....Black socks are in these days again.... Wooohoooo!
